Who are we?

Establishment of The Association

The Association of University Museums was established in 2014, after a series of meetings initiated in 2012. The idea, initially functioning as an informal project called "University Museums," gained support thanks to the cooperation of museum professionals from Warsaw, Białystok, Poznań, Kraków, Gdańsk and Gdynia. It was these initiatives that made possible the creation of the first Association of University Museums in Poland.

Objectives and mission

The most important goal of the Association is to work for the development of university museums and the preservation of academic heritage through its protection, dissemination, promotion, as well as to support the collection, documentation and conservation of monuments, initiate and conduct scientific research. Extensive information activities are carried out, promoting the idea of university museums in Poland and abroad.

Cooperation with institutions

AUM has ongoing cooperation with institutions such as the National Institute of Museums, which enables it to raise the substantive level of university museums. In addition, the Association has established international partnerships, including UNIVERSEUM, ICOM UMAC, as well as with university museums in Europe, and participates in European projects and conferences, strengthening its position in the international arena.

Key achievements

SMU's major achievements include:

  • organization of numerous scientific conferences, including in Nieborów, Kraków, Łódź, Gdańsk, Kielce, Warszawa, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, which gathered hundreds of participants from Poland and abroad.
  • The association has won numerous honors and awards:
    • In 2015, an honorable mention in the category "Best museum project open" in the IX competition "Mazovian Museum Events - Willow" organized by the Mazovian Branch of the Association of Museum Professionals Polish.
    • In 2018, the publication "UNIVERSITY MUSEUMS. CATALOG" submitted to the 12th edition of the "Mazovian Museum Events - Willow" competition by the UW Museum took first place in its category - "Museum Publications".
    • In 2021, in the 15th edition of the competition "Mazovian Museum Events - Wierzba", the Museum of the University of Warszawa and the Association of Academic Museums received the second prize in the category "Most interesting museum publication" for the catalog "Treasure Houses of Polish Academic Heritage".

Our business

AUM carries out a wide range of scientific, educational and cultural projects, including exhibitions on Polish academic heritage, lecture series, digitization of objects, conservation of collections, publication of catalogs, etc. It actively participates in events, including Night of Museums, national and international conferences, involving numerous institutions and participants. Through cooperation with ministries and academic institutions, the Association systematically improves the level of activity of museums and university collections and promotes academic heritage in Poland and abroad .
